YOGA CLASS DESCRIPTIONS |
|
Beginner Yoga
class schedule |
instructors |
|

These classes introduce the basics of yoga.
Suitable for everyone - those that are active and strong, as well as those
that have health challenges and serious concerns. Postures with many
modification options, along with encouragement to work at the
pace you choose, make these classes appropriate for everyone. Start any time you like and repeat as often as needed. You
will gain an understanding of your present posture and how to
make appropriate corrections on a daily basis. The five
main goals of beginner classes are to:
-
Improve
muscular strength.
-
Improve
muscle and joint flexibility.
-
Become
aware of current posture and existing injuries or
limitations.
-
Develop
an understanding of improvements that can be made, how these changes will take place, and the benefits that will come.
-
Have
some laughs and learn to create a relaxing state all the
time.

Level
1 & 2
class schedule |
instructors |
|

Level
1 and 2 classes focus on a central theme each class; a
specific
category of poses (i.e., standing, seated, forward bending,
inverted) or postures that target a specific area
of the body (i.e., chest expansion, hip mobility, lower back).
The learning gained in beginner classes
is often used as
a warm up for the Level 1 and 2 classes.
Students are encouraged to understand more detailed
techniques in more challenging poses. A longer relaxation time allows
one to focus on the breath and begin watching the mind.
The four objectives of Level 1 and 2 classes are to:
-
Increase
awareness of tadasana (mountain pose) in all postures.
-
Improve
strength and flexibility.
-
Become
comfortable applying breathing and concentration techniques.
-
Encourage
confidence in one’s base knowledge to develop a home
practice if desired.

Intermediate
Yoga
class

instructors |

In Intermediate Classes, students are challenged physically with asanas
(poses) that
demand strength and flexibility, or mentally with concepts
ranging from the mechanics of joint movement to the change in
energy flow during asanas with pranayama (breath control). These classes
are a wonderful
compliment to a committed home practice, as much introspection is
required. In these classes, students become aware of:
-
Fine
physical details that have great impacts on asanas.
-
The
influence that state of mind has on asanas and asanas on state of
mind.
-
A
shift in perspective and expectations towards oneself
and others.
