At Get Bent, we believe exercise and self-exploration should be lots of fun! 

 

Get Bent offers a range of yoga classes for all ages & abilities.  Get Bent Yoga classes are relaxing, challenging, focused and fun - all within the same hour.

 

Get Bent Yoga utilizes straps, blocks and other props to aid with proper alignment.

 

Get Bent Yoga is based upon Iyengar Yoga to:

Improves Flexibility

You're never too old to improve your flexibility.  Yoga poses safely stretch your muscles and the soft tissues of your body.  Yoga also increases the range of motion and lubrication of your joints.  You will see benefits in a short period of time no matter your level.

Increases Core Strength & Muscle Tone

Get Bent Yoga is a gentle style based upon Iyengar Yoga.  Get Bent Yoga focuses on precise alignment and gentle movements which increases strength, endurance and muscle tone.  Yoga poses build core strength and the muscles of the body.

 Better Posture, Alignment & Body Awareness

As your flexibility and strength increases, you develop better posture.  As you maintain each pose your core muscles get stronger.  With a strong core, you can sit and stand tall.  As you learn to listen to your body you gain better body awareness. This awareness tells you when you are slouching so you adjust your posture.

Deeper Breathing & Lung Capacity

Get Bent Yoga focuses on deepening and lengthening your breath to stimulate the "relaxation response" within the mind and body.   In turn, one's lung capacity often improves.  Meditation is utilized in intermediate and advanced classes.

Greater Relaxation & Calm Mind

Get Bent Yoga helps quiet stressful mind chatter.  Even beginners feel relaxed after the first class.  As you learn to focus on your breath, you become more relaxed.  It has also been scientifically proven that yoga lowers stress hormones to create a feeling of calm.

Improves Concentration, Mood & Energy

Participants often report that yoga helps improve their mood, focus and energy.  Scientists are also researching the effects of yoga on depression because of the oxygen boost yoga creates in the brain.

Lowers Blood Pressure & Slows Heart Rate

In 2004, Get Bent developed the "Cardiac Rehabilitation Yoga Program" accepted by Interior Health to improve the health of people with heart conditions. One of the most studied areas of yoga is the positive effects on heart disease. Yoga has been proven to lower blood pressure and slow the heart rate which is greatly beneficial for people with hypertension, heart disease and stroke.

Helps with Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation

Yoga benefits many other medical conditions such as relieving symptoms of back pain, asthma and arthritis. Many athletes also practice yoga to prevent injuries, improve core strength and gain greater flexibility.
